As
King County's first recipient of the Green Globe Award for Environmental
Education and Wildlife Habitat Protection, Classic is proud
to be able to offer tours of the native habitat surrounding
the Nursery. Facilitated by ROSE (Redmond Organization for Shared
Environments) and administered by former Classic owner's Leon & Linda Hussey, these visits are arranged by appointment. In
the fall the salmon viewing is an incredible experience for
all ages. School groups from pre-schools to PHD programs have
participated in our educational and informative tours. A real
community effort in its development, the Classic trail has seen
Local Boy Scout groups, the YMCA, local businesses and groups
such as the Stanford Alumni participating in its planning, construction
and maintenance. |
Welcome
to Classic Nursery & Landscape Company If you are planning
or have already arranged for a field trip to our nursery, we
would like you to consider the following:
1. Remember to dress appropriately. The trail is sometimes
muddy and you may need boots, in addition to raingear.
2. Parking space is very limited and large truck deliveries
to the Nursery may be scheduled during your time on the trail.
The areas designated for your group to park are the North side
of the greenhouses and the far south parking area. Carpooling
is essential. If you have more than 4 cars, please call ahead
to let us know, especially if your tour is scheduled in the
spring or fall.
3. Allow a minimum of 1 adult per 20 students (depending
on the age of the students), in addition to the adults assigned
to bring the students to the nursery. Ideally, 1 adult per 5
students is recommended. If your group is larger, please call
ahead so additional volunteers may be arranged.
4. Large nametags are very helpful.
5. We highly recommend the teacher or head of the group
visit to walk the trail ahead of time in order to be familiar
with the route. It is important to talk with your ROSE or Classic
tour guide prior to your tour.
6. All arrangements must be made ahead of time with ROSE.
A ROSE representative will make sure the topic you want presented
to your group is ready with all appropriate information. You
can reach ROSE through Linda or Leon Hussey at (425)882-1846.
7. Remember to stay on the trail and respect the native
vegetation.
8. You will be seeing a number of ecological areas on
your tour: a. pond b. wetland edge c. upland d. nurse logs e.
woodland edge f. floodplain g. stream corridor h. restoration
work
9. Please note that there may be a charge for this activity.
There is a $1.00 charge per person (adults and children) to
help us offset some of the costs for maintaining the trail.
If you would like to volunteer time on the trail in lieu of
the charge, please call and we can make arrangements with Linda
or Leon Hussey of ROSE. Checks should be made out to R.O.S.E.
(Redmond Organization of Shared Environments). The quality of
our watershed is an indication of the quality of our life. We
appreciate your interest in supporting and teaching our children
about the value of their environment. |
